John Baker was named this year’s Bachelor of the Year by raising $26,687.80 for the Parker County Committee on Aging at the 6th Annual Boots, Bar-B-Que and Bachelors event held at the Brooks at Weatherford. Shelly Mowrey spoke on behalf of the Committee on Aging and outlined the group’s exciting new build for Parker County’s seniors. She shared that utilities are in and dirt work is complete on the new Parker County Senior Center going up on Vine Street in Weatherford.

Other winners for the night were Chef of The Year Whistle Hill’s Downtown Café’s Paxton Lanning for its delicious offering of pork sliders. Austin Livingston was also honored for his hard work on behalf of the Weatherford/Parker County Animal shelter as he raised $25,406.46 for Parker County’s furry friends.
Altogether the bachelors raised close to $100,000 for the five charities which included the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter, Careity Foundation, the Parker County Committee on Aging, Parker County Child Advocacy Center, and Stars and Strides Therapeutic Riding Stable. The other hardworking bachelors were Rick Crosley, Lucas Humphrey, and Jeremiah Johnson.

The guests at the event dined on delicious food from local restaurants including the aforementioned Whistle Hill, as well as Fish Creek, Boo Ray’s of New Orleans, Hooker’s Grill and Vintage Grill and Car Museum. Dessert was provided by Back Home Bakery and VIP appetizers by Drake’s Yoke.

“So many sponsors and businesses contributed to tonight’s successful evening,” said Marsha Brown, publisher of Parker County Today Magazine, the presenter of the event. “We applaud tonight’s winners, but everyone wins as the dollars raised help people throughout the county through our great nonprofit partners,” she continued.

The bachelor and charity were chosen by raising the most dollars during the time period beginning in May at a kickoff event held at Baker’s Ribs until July 17, 2018. The winning restaurant was chosen by ballots cast by event attendees. A full list of the sponsors and contributing businesses can be seen on the magazine’s website at www.parkercountytoday.com.
